404 Studio

I interviewed designer Anaïs from 404 studio on her current collection created entirely from crochet, I caught up with her and we had a chat.

What inspired you to use crochet for your clothing?
When I was studying Art Direction my mom started to make crochet and teach me how to do it and I totally fell in love with the technique! I've always been curious about tradition and old school techniques and when I started with crochet I couldn't stop. I started making easy crochet tops but I got bored and I wanted to explore more, that's how 404 Studio became a reality!
How long does each garment take to make?

It depends of the garment, the easier ones could take just 5/6 hours but the suits for example could take 140/180 hours to finish!!

What was your inspiration for this collection?
I have two concepts that rule my work, the bigger one that moves every collection, the aim of 404 studio: Reinvent knitwear and explore the capacity of knit, making current and contemporary something consider old fashioned. And the second concept behind each collection: I'm always inspired by cult films. I Love art and cinema, so I'm always trying to merge it all into a collection. Lastly, I was inspired by "The Holy Mountain" by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Art direction is what always inspires me the most in every film!

You just showed in London for LFW, what was your favourite memory in London?

I don't know if I could choose one..... I remember the first time I met all the designers, Lee Lapthorne and Emily Evans... it was like a reality hit. I didn't realized until that moment that I was going to present my collection in LFW! Also the day of the show was super special..... and all the moments with Emily! seriously we had lots of fun!!! Overall, that was an incredible experience that make me grow both professionally and personally. Can't wait to next one!

Thank you so much to Anais I cant wait to see what you do next!
